Certified Coding & Abstracting Specialist at Providence

The Certified Coding & Abstracting Specialist reviews inpatient and outpatient medical records and appropriately codes for billing purposes. The incumbent then enters the data on the computer system and verifies for accuracy. Works all claims denials and works closely with inpatient and outpatient billing offices to ensure revenue maximization is continually met. Provides training for physicians, nurses and clerical staff on coding and assists in all updates in the charge master file on all new procedures. Performs other non clinical duties when necessary.

Required Education
High School graduate, CCS certification required, CPC certification preferred. A minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in Health Information Management setting or a combination of the two. Must have ability to work independently and possess strong communication skills. Must have aptitude and preference for detail work and research. Must be able to travel to outside locations to review medical charts for satellite facilities, such as Tufts-New England Medical Center, New Bedford, Foxboro, etc. Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology required as well as experience in ICD-9CM and CPT-4 coding. Knowledge of IDX, Cerner, and radiology coding background a plus.
