Our Medical Center is located in Providence, RI with outpatient clinics located in Middletown, RI, Hyannis and New Bedford, MA. We provide high quality comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to veterans residing in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. This Supervisory Psychologist is located in the Readjustment Counseling Service/Warwick Veteran Center in Warwick, RI and is a non-bargaining unit position. Vet Centers provide individual, group and family counseling to all Veterans who served in any combat zone.
Note: The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-13. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidates education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate, this will not exceed GS-13.
This is a permanent full-time position. The work schedule is: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however, you may be required to work weekends, holidays and evenings. This is one position which may be filled as a Supervisory Psychologist, Supervisory Readjustment Counseling Therapist or Supervisory Social Worker.
- KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess full, unrestricted license
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English
- Provides administrative and professional leadership responsibility for the Vet Center in the local community
- Conducts interviews and counseling with clients and provide psychological assessment and treatment to clients.
- Performs readjustment counseling interventions to include crisis intervention and both short and long term services.
- Refers clients to other programs/professionals, as needed.
- Provides consultation and therapy.
- Provides psycho-diagnosis testing and psychological assessment to those clients who display clinically severe or unusual psychological disturbances.
- Conducts or supervises other management, individual, group, conjoint and family therapy, biofeedback, and relaxation training and other therapeutic intervention strategies.
- Participates in conjoint emergency treatment with medical facility mental health personnel.
- Conducts and/or supervises social/psychological assessments of all veteran clients.
- Provides highly skilled readjustment counseling services to clients with difficult and complex problems of social, emotional and vocational adjustment, e.g., Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
- Organizes counseling groups and functions as facilitator or therapist for counseling groups.
- Provides guidance, consultation and supervision for team members conducting group counseling.
- As needed during the treatment process, assists clients with applications for Veterans benefits and helping clients complete and channel VA documents and forms.
- Conducts follow up of clients by telephone and/or mail.

Basic Requirements :
Education: A Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). (Unofficial transcripts required)
Licensure: A current, full, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral degree level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico) or the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, Paragraph 5a, this part.
Specialized Experience GS-13 requires: In addition to meeting all basic requirements, applicants must have two (2) years of Post Doctoral Professional Psychologist experience one of which must be equivalent to GS-12 in the Federal Service. This experience must have been as a Clinical Psychologist (Post Doctoral) working directly with Veterans on readjustment issues to include combat related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
