The Providence VA Medical Center, located in downtown Providence, RI provides opportunity for urban and/or rural living with an easy commute. RI, the Ocean State, is known for its scenic shoreline, offering sandy beaches, and quaint villages as well as, the opulent mansions of Newport, the sailing capitol of the world. Providence is located between Boston and New York City with excellent transportation facilities in both directions. The Medical Center delivers a broad range of services including general medicine, surgical and psychiatric inpatient facilities, fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). The Medical Center includes a vibrant research program and is affiliated with the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the University of Rhode Island, College of Pharmacy. The Center also operates three (3) Community Based Outpatient Clinics in New Bedford, Hyannis, MA and Middletown, RI as well as three (3) Vet Centers.

Applicants education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board to determine the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary will be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The work schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

- Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

- Assumes responsibility for Risk Management Program elements: ABI, occurrence screen review and processing, tort claim processing for legal counsel, peer review assistance to the Chief of Staff (COS), risk assessment, policy, and procedures.
- Administers the Risk Management Program on a day to day basis.
- Manages, interprets, and analyzes risk data, and provides risk management education to members of the healthcare team.
- Assures compliance with regulatory standards and directives regarding risk management.
- Conducts investigations, audits, and problem focused studies which include record reviews, collecting relevant data, analyzing all aspects and making recommendations to mitigate risks.
- Assists with aspects of the patient safety program which effect or overlap the risk management program.
- Participates in relevant hospital committees and functions.
- Advises and consults with management to ensure that the results from analysis of risk management activities are fully integrated in the overall QI program.
- Ensures there is an effective process for monitoring and trending all risk management activities and reporting to designated hospital committees and leadership.
- Maintains and enhances current knowledge of risk management principles relative to healthcare delivery.
- Provides oversight for the implementation of full disclosure process to assure compliance with administrative requirements.
- Provides education to healthcare team regarding full disclosure.

Basic Requirements:
- Graduate of a state approved, National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)/Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited school of Nursing.
- United States Citizen · Current, full, active and unrestricted RN License in any US State, Commonwealth, Territory, or the District of Columbia
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or a field related to nursing.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Risk Manager in a hospital/medical center setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary groups to identify, analyze, and resolve problems and improve patient care services.
- Demonstrated analytical and organization skills, along with proficiency in conducting timely comprehensive record reviews.
- Demonstrated competencies in clinical practice, staff development, and leadership skills.
- Effective and impeccable communication skills.
- Physical and mental capability to satisfactorily perform assignments.
