As an Immigration Services Officer you will support the Adjudications process by adjudicating cases. Provide oversight, liaison and evaluation activities for immigration services elements, and perform analytical and evaluative work associated with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) program activities.

Relocation expenses are authorized if you are assigned to the RAIO program and have been approved for rotation from an overseas assignment. Relocation expenses for employees assigned to an OCONUS location will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

As an Immigration Services Officer, you will:

  • Support the Adjudications process by adjudicating complex cases, conducting security checks, interviewing applicants and petitioners, ensuring program quality assurance, conducting training, serving as liaison, and communicating decisions.
  • Perform analytical and evaluative work associated with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) program activities, as well as perform work involving the analysis of the Bureau-wide impact, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of existing and/or proposed standards, regulations, programs and policies.
  • Serve as national authority in the analysis of legislation and the interpretation of policy for national programs, as well as assume authority on the adjudication of cases involving national security and egregious public safety concerns, and function as subject matter expert in more complex adjudications case types responding to inquiries from a variety of sources.
  • Independently conduct legal research and prepare briefs, position papers, legal decisions and opinions, notices of intent, notices to appear in removal proceedings, and motions/responses to the court.
  • Develop standard operating policies and procedures designed to detect and prevent benefit fraud, and monitor progress to determine if objectives are being met.

GS-13: You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:

  • Providing guidance, direction and support on policy matters for immigration services.
  • Assisting in planning, managing and directing USCIS related immigration operations.
  • Performing analytical and evaluative work associated with USCIS program activities.


Education: There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59pm (Eastern Time) on the closing date of this announcement (Monday, July 29, 2013).

Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service.  The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59pm (Eastern Time) on the closing date of this announcement (Monday, July 29, 2013).
