This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830), Computer Engineer (0854), Electronic Engineer (0855) or Computer Scientist (1550) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate.
This position is part of the Electronic Warfare Systems Branch in the Undersea Warfare Electromagnetic Systems Department of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. In this position, you will serve as the Navy Intel agent, where you will manage, advise and provide technical assistance for the Electronic Warfare and Imaging Systems (ESM) and assist in establishing Information Assurance criteria, formulating projects, and assessing program effectiveness, and troubleshooting of technical problems that have a critical impact on the undersea force operations, technology, issues, and initiatives.
This position is a Reassignment opportunity only open to employees within (NUWCDINPT and NUWCDIVNPT-HQ) who are currently holding an ND-04 level position.

As an Engineer/Scientist your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Applying standard engineering practices of related scientific disciplines.
Reviewing, researching, designing and leading Information Assurance technical solutions to meet the requirements of the Naval Undersea Warfare Departments.
Leading technical engineering projects as the Information Assurance advisor.
Advising on a wide range of complex Engineering projects and Information Assurance issues.
Developing specifications for the acquisition of computer hardware and services.
Develop testing procedures to verify the equipment specifications, standards, and guidelines for information technology systems associated with combat systems.
Presenting informational and technical briefs to management and customers about software operations or computer hardware.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THE ND-04 POSITION: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 (GS-12/13 equivalency) level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer or scientist designing, developing or testing of submarine warfare systems. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of qualifying experience include:
Developing engineering plans, proposals, budget development, and staffing/team development.
Designing new or standard industry software and engineering applications.
Conducting software test and evaluation; managing hardware or software maintenance and lifecycle support, configuration management, and quality assurance and reliability projects.
Applying systems engineering and operations research techniques to develop/design computer system architecture or system software systems.

For Professional Engineering Series Degree (0830/0854/0855): Successful completion of a professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university. -OR- Successful completion of a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science of physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics.

For Professional Engineering Series - Substitution of Education/Experience (0830/0854/0855): Combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. Professional Engineering Registration to demonstrate the adequacy of education and experience. -OR- Combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. Successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, which demonstrates the adequacy of education and experience. OR- Successful completion of a degree with at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, and in professional engineering curriculum (as described above). -OR- Successful completion of a degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

For Computer Science Series (1550): A degree in computer science or bachelors degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of my 30 semester hours were in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
