Integrated Defense Systems Engineerings Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The MED uses state-of-the-art tools, processes technology and Raytheon Six Sigma principles. 

MED s Undersea & Electronics Systems Department, located at the Seapower Capability Center (SCC) in Portsmouth , RI is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer.
Job Description:

Senior Mechanical Design and Production Support Engineer with a minimum of 7 years experience in design and/or production support to lead detailed design, documentation, fabrication, assembly and test of high reliability electronic systems for various military and Government applications.  Working as part of an integrated product team, the position requires broad technical expertise in the mechanical engineering field with knowledge of related disciplines.  Candidate should have solid technical skills, an understanding of production needs, and shall be capable of concept development based upon applying principles of mechanical engineering.  Design opportunities include electronic enclosures and the packaging of custom and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) electronics within those enclosures.  Experience with the integration of Commercial Off The Shelf electronics into military enclosures is desired.  Perform trade studies for innovative solutions that provide best value to our customers. Perform technical management of suppliers including support of supplier fabrication issues.  Although demonstrated leadership experience is not required, some experience with task leadership is strongly desired.

Required Skills:

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, MS preferred.
* 7+ years experience in design, documentation and fabrication/assembly of electro-mechanical systems.
* Documented broad based hardware engineering and/or production background.
* Prior experience with configuration management systems.
* Demonstrated experience with 3-D modeling software.
Desired Skills:

* Task Leadership experience
* Demonstrated experience on DoD programs.
* Experience with GD&T.
* Experience with program cost and schedule monitoring and reporting, esp. EVMS (Earned Value Management System).
* Experience with Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) ProEngineer Creo and Product Data Management (PDM).
* Experience with COTs hardware selection and integration

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Clearance requirements:  Ability to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance
