This position is located in the Naval Systems Engineering Directorate (NAVSEA 05) Undersea Warfare Systems (USW) Engineering Technical Domain (05N) in the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), located at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport, RI. This position serves as Senior Engineer, and function as the single National-level senior expert on non platform Distributed Undersea Sensor Systems deployed to provide maritime surveillance using both active and passive sensors.

DUTIES:Back to top As Senior Engineer, duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as the Technical Authority for all Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) technical decision making associated with undersea sensors distributed for the purposes of detection, classification, localization and tracking of submarines and other vehicles transiting on the surface or underwater.
- Specific technologies include Fixed distributed undersea sensors, Deployable distributed undersea sensors, Passive Sonobuoys, Deployable active sources, and Emerging distributed undersea sensor technologies.
- Provide system expertise to the Navy, along with the design, development, testing, acquisition and in-service engineering of distributed sensor systems and associated equipment including the integration of new and upgraded distributed sensors and subsystems.
- Ensure applicable requirements are satisfied and associated operational impacts and risks are identified.
- Identify technically acceptable options and negotiates the resolution of challenging technical issues to ensure products are technically accurate, reliable and safe and that products are developed following sound engineering principles and current standards.
- Ensure that technically sound distributed sensor systems are delivered to and maintained for the Fleet.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:I have successfully completed a professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) college or university. OR I have successfully completed a professional engineering degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics.OR I have a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree.
