IT Administration

 A worldwide distributor known for their luxury products is currently seeking a system administrator with extensive experience with Linux (5 years +) for their Cranston, Rhode Island Office. Duties for this system administrator position include, but are not limited to: 
  • Manage aggressive individual projects and collaborate with IT peers at (Corp. and Local Level) and analysts on department and business needs.
  • Adheres to Corporate IT Policies, SOPs, SLA and change management procedures.
  • Participates in the building of servers, racks, and cabling for expansion and new sites.
  • Create comprehensive technical architecture diagrams and documentation using Visio and other tools.
  • Work with HP server hardware including blade technology and larger multiprocessor servers.
  • Provide Linux, Windows server infrastructure installation, integration, maintenance and upgrades.
  • Participate in various project related to design and implementation of new and/or existing server and storage infrastructure components.
  • Ensure O/S, messaging and application security utilizing various software and appliances providing antivirus,anti-Spam, patch management.
  • Conduct systems analysis and monitoring at the hardware, O/S and application levels ensuring system environment reliability and availability.
  • Monitoring and management of infrastructure services such as NIS, BIND, Cluster Server, Sendmail and SysLogging.
  • Proactively manage HP SAN and Netapp storage utilization and availability.
  • Perform hardware and software installations, upgrades, and repairs on all systems.
  • Actively participate in 24 X 7 crisis responses in the area of system administration; may be required periodically to work evenings and weekends when necessary to minimize business impact.
  • Work with hardware and software vendors for problem determination and resolution as needed.
  • Troubleshoot all production system issues, incoming support requests that are escalated from Service Desk.
  • Performs all other system administrative tasks and duties assigned.
  • Strictly follow Corp. IT support and server life-cycle management process.
  • Function as 2nd level escalation for all customer service and support issues.
  • Ability to produce creative solutions to business problems.
 This system administrator position is a full time with a salary range of 70-78K with a 5% bonus, based on experience.   RequirementsA suitable candidate for this system administrator position will have the following skills and qualifications:
  • 5 years of Linux/Unix system administration experience.
  • 3 years of Windows system administration experience in Active Directory, Exchange, SQL server.
  • 2 years working experience in HP SANs or Netapp storage.
  • 2+ years designing, deploying and maintaining a high availability VMware 2.5.x/VI3 environment.
  • Solid understanding of storage area networks, Fiber Channel Switched Fabric, data replication techniques, and limitations and benefits of each.
  • Solid understanding LUNs, disk based backup technologies, iSCSI,, HP server hardware.
  • Substantial experience with Symantec Netbackup.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, NFS, NIS, DNS, Linux account management, file permissions, security considerations, and clustering technologies are all essential to success.
  • Understanding of fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts.
  • Strong knowledge in Cluster Server; working knowledge in replication technologies.
  • Ability to drive/lead problem resolution process to root cause, take initiative in identifying and fixing broken processes in production environment.
  • Excellent understanding of disaster recovery components; Working knowledge of high availability strategies.
  • Experience with performance tuning/capacity planning of servers (hardware and software levels).
  • Responsibilities also include coding and scripting: Linux scripts, perl, shell scripts to enable system performance, capacity planning and tuning.
  • Working knowledge of various systems security solution with a demonstrated ability of implementation.
  • Ability to interface with and provide systems guidance and recommendations to other teams inside and outside of the IT organization, including application administrators and software developers.
  • Thorough understanding and applied experience with CIFS, iSCSI, and SAN.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple problems and issues with minimal supervision, excellent organizational skills, a teamwork approach to work but also act independently to solve problems when necessary.
  • Must be able to work in a flexible schedule, including nights and weekend.
  • Strong organizational and analytical, leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in complex, diverse environment with rapidly changing priorities.
