JOB SUMMARY:

Rhode Island National Guard

The Rhode Island National Guard traces its history from the first colonial defensive force established in the town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island in 1638. Today, the Rhode Island National Guard consists of dedicated men and women, prepared to serve our State and Nation in a variety of military specialties.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED:

Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

Experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment.  Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems.  Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment.  Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc.  Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.

In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel.  Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines.  Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.  Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes.  Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

  • RIARNG members and those willing to enlist in it, grades E6 - E8.
  • Assignment in ECMF 25, 94 or MOS 13D, 13M, 13P, 13R, 14E, 14T, 14Z,
  • 15E, 29E, 35T, 91A, 91F, 91G, 91H, 91K, 91M, 91P, 91S, 91X, 91Z.
  • Appointment is contingent upon results of Protocol B Physical Exam.
  • Background Criminal Investigation required prior to appointment.
  • Must have a valid state drivers license for the state in which they live.

Brief Description of Duties: Plans use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.  Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by the supervisor.  Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors.  Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.  Redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work.  Informs the supervisor of the need to revise work schedules and re-estimate labor and other resources.  Participates with the supervisor in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes.  Implements corrective actions within their authority to resolve work problems.  Recommends solutions to staffing problems, engineering requirements, and work operations directed by other supervisors. Plans and establishes overall leave schedules.  Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for accomplishment.  Sets performance standards, and makes formal appraisals of subordinate work performance.  Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Employment in this position requires membership in the Rhode Island Army National Guard. Selected candidate(s) will be required to be in a compatible military grade and assignment within 60 days of the effective date of placement. Should be MOS qualified within one year of placement action.

 

Military Grades: E-6 through E-8.

 

Compatible Military Assignments: Enlisted Career Managment Field (ECMF) 25, 94 or MOS 13D, 13M, 13P, 13R, 14E, 14T, 14Z, 15E, 29E, 35T, 91A, 91F, 91G, 91H, 91K, 91M, 91P, 91S, 91X, 91Z.

 


Substitution of education for specialized experience: NONE

Requirements:

Incumbent must maintain membership in the Rhode Island Army National Guard.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

Applicant must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance within one year of appointment.

Background Criminal Investigations (BCI) are required for federal employment.

Appointment is contingent upon results of Protocol B Physical Exam.
